Waterfield Clocks

The 1805 Collection

The 1805 Collection is a commemorative collection of limited edition works by leading artists and craftspeople using oak and copper removed from HMS Victory to mark the bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar in 2005.

34 tons of Oak and 10 tons of copper removed over 80 years of restoration work on the world's oldest commissioned warship and Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar have been released to VICTORY LTD by the Ministry of Defence. In the hands of skilled people, this heritage material is now being transformed into a wide range of unique artworks for collectors, investors and those who value fine workmanship and the history from which it is wrought.

Charles Waterfield of 'Waterfield Clocks' and Christopher Milner* of 'Woodworking Supplies’ have pulled resources to design and build a Longcase Clock using materials from HMS Victory and the present day.

The clock will be made using Oak from past and present, bringing together these materials will be a challenge in itself to compliment each other.
Other materials to be incorporated into the clock case will be the copper which covered the bottom of the ship. The clock dial will also be unique as it will be a modern lunar-type dial with hand-painted art work from Nelson's era.

The background of the company is bespoke cabinet work made using traditional techniques. Some 17 years ago as a family business we branched out into the supply of woodworking materials by mail order to craftsmen under the heading of Christopher Milner Woodworking Supplies. We offer a wide range of components such as clock materials, mechanical and quartz movements, dial hands, fittings, barometers, thermometers, cabinet furniture etc. Also general woodworking materials such as abrasives, polish, lacquer, saw blades etc. with over 2000 product lines held in stock.
The manufacturing side has run along side the retail but has changed it’s focus from the large commissioned one off pieces of furniture to a more specialist clock and barometer case manufacture and operates under the separate title of ‘Time and Weather Instruments’.
